Poll Results State
that Companies are Losing Billions Due to Apathic Customer Service
Virginia
Beach, VA,
June 14, 2005—According
to a recent online poll by The Sykes Group, 80%
of poll participants say apathy or an “I don’t
care” attitude by organization is the #1 reason they won’t buy from the vendor
again.
“The
average business can achieve extraordinary revenues if
it makes the investment in training its
employees on how to treat their customers,” says Ed Sykes, co-founder of The
Sykes Group,
a leading provider of
leadership, customer relations, and motivation solutions.
“Many times, as the saying goes, you have only one
opportunity to make a good impression. Because
of the apathy (lack of care or concern) shown during customer interaction, the
customer doesn’t feel appreciated or respected
and doesn’t enjoy his/her
overall customer experience. This results in
lost business, bad word-of-mouth, and lost revenues. This doesn’t make
business sense, since the average business
spends five times the amount of dollars and time to gain new customers as
opposed to keeping present customers happy and
buying. If more businesses invested more money
in the ‘high touch’ or
people skills, more companies would be in the black financially.”
