Women's Empowerment Conference Makes a Difference at Virginia Beach Higher Education Center

 

Virginia Beach, VA, November 15, 2003--The Sykes Group and Norfolk State University co-hosted the first Women's Empowerment Conference, “Upward Bound Women: Unity and Power,” on September 30, 2003 at the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center.  This conference will be dedicated to the career, business, health, and financial needs of upwardly mobile women in the Hampton Roads area.

"The idea for the Women's Empowerment Conference came to us out of necessity," says Ed Sykes and Joy Fisher-Sykes, co-founders of The Sykes Group, experts in providing empowerment programs for individuals and organizations.  "While working with women professionals, we noticed that many women had the skills to be successful, but there was always something that would seem to hold them back from achieving and excelling to their fullest potential in their careers and personal lives.  Many times these female professionals only need a mentor to share the tools to succeed."

        The expert speakers at the Women's Empowerment Conference include The Honorable Nancy Parker, Former City of Virginia Beach Council Member, presenting “Reflections: Life Lessons Learned;” Ms. Delceno Miles of The Miles Agency presenting “Successful Women in Business;” Ms. Margaret Little, CFP, of Morgan Stanley presenting “Making Dollar$ and Sense: Achieving Financial Independence;” Dr. Lisa Price Stevens of Amelia Internal Medicine presenting “Women’s Health Today;” and Ed Sykes and Joy Fisher-Sykes, Founders of The Sykes Group presenting respectively, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy: Mastering Stress to Achieve Success” and “Assertive Communication for Women.”
